March 20, fishing

Mar. 23rd | Posted by Richard 0 comments
We went out on Lake Hamilton Sunday morning about daylight. It was a beautiful day, no wind, slightly overcast.  Unfortunately, the stripers seemed to be sleeping in. It was almost 9 before we got our one and only hit. The striper broke the water and grabbed our 8 inch live shad and tugged like crazy [...]

March 4, 2010 fishing

The striper fishing is getting better. Went out this afternoon about 4:00 PM and caught 2 in the upper end of the lake below Blakley dam on live shad. One was a little over 20 lbs, and put up a great fight. The water should start flowing tomorrow as Entergy begins filling up the lake. [...]

Striper fishing continues to improve. We caught 2 nice ones today and a third one that we didn’t get netted fast enough. These were caught on Lake Hamilton below the dam on live shad. They were caught early in the morning before the rain set in. Now’s the time to get your gear ready and [...]

Striper Fishing- 2/23

Feb. 24th | Posted by Richard 0 comments
We were on the lake today at the crack of dawn. It was a chilly 44 deg and just enough breeze to put a little chop on the water. We headed up to Lake Ouachita to the backs of some creeks to find warmer water. When we found water that was 50 deg we stopped and put [...]

Striper Bait

Feb. 21st | Posted by Richard 2 comments
We headed out today about noon to get shad for striper bait. This was something new for me, and I have been looking forward to the task. However, it did turn out to be a lot of work. Throwing cast nets and culling slimy, stinky shad is not as much fun as I had envisioned. [...]

Feb. 18th | Posted by Richard 0 comments
We got on the lake just before daylght and headed to the backs of some of the upper lake creeks. The water was warmer there and the shad activity was the greatest. We saw lots of stripers on the graph,  but they were very scattered. We also saw surfacing stripers, but just single fish. No [...]

Thursday Striper Hunt

Feb. 17th | Posted by Richard 0 comments
Went out early this morning to locate those elusive wintertime Lake Hamilton stripers. Overcast skies, mid to high 50′s and 10 – 20 MPH winds made it a chilly day on the water. We searched the area around  Carpenter Dam for almost 3 hours. We saw scattered fish on the graph but no large schools. There [...]

Feb 15 Fishing Report

Feb. 16th | Posted by Richard 0 comments
Beautiful fishing weather today on Lake Hamilton. Air tempatures are in the high 50′s and clouds moving through bringing alternating overcast and sunshine. We spent about 4 hours looking for stripers. We found a few on the locator on the north side of the Airport Road bridge, but they didn’t seem to be feeding. We [...]

Every now and then a new fishing product comes along that the fishing and non fishing world just has to see. It is for real?  Apparrently so. Does it really work?  No idea. Am I going to buy one?   Snicker. Its worth a minute to view the video.  YouTube links:

Lake Hamilton Refill Schedule

Feb. 14th | Posted by Richard 0 comments
Entergy will begin refilling Lake Hamilton to its normal level on March 5th. It should be to full level on March 13. Now is the time to get those brush piles placed and any last minute maintenance done on your seawalls or docks. I always look forward to this time because it means there will be water coming [...]
